This month, The Sheffield 1000 are delighted to donate £1000 to FareShare Yorkshire, a charity tackling food waste while helping to ensure good food reaches the people and communities that need it most.

Founded in 1998, FareShare Yorkshire intercepts good-quality surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and redistributes it through a network of frontline charities and community organisations.

Food arrives at their regional centres before being sorted and delivered to organisations that transform it into nutritious meals and food parcels for people in need. It’s a simple idea that has a huge impact – reducing unnecessary food waste while supporting communities across Yorkshire.

Our donation will enable FareShare Yorkshire to make additional deliveries across Sheffield, helping even more local charities access food for the people they support.

Each additional van run can deliver an incredible one tonne of surplus food – enough to provide more than 2,000 meals. That means our £1000 donation can help good food go further and reach communities across our city where it can make a real difference.
