This month, The Sheffield 1000 are proud to donate £1000 to NESST – Nether Edge and Sharrow Sustainable Transformation, a community-led initiative dedicated to improving the local environment.

NESST brings together residents of Nether Edge and Sharrow to care for and enhance their neighbourhood. Their work focuses on maintaining green spaces, increasing biodiversity, supporting wildlife habitats, and bringing people together to take action on the climate crisis.

Through their projects, NESST not only improves the local environment but also creates opportunities for the community to connect, collaborate and share a common purpose.
Our donation has supported their latest project — the Abbeydale Road Parklet, a new sand meadow designed to support pollinators and urban wildlife. The space includes a seating area and retaining wall, filled with a specialist sand mixture and planted with nectar-rich wildflowers, which are now beginning to grow.

This project is a fantastic example of how small, community-driven changes can have a lasting impact — creating greener, more welcoming spaces while helping to tackle the effects of climate change.
