This month, The Sheffield 1000 are proud to donate £1000 to The Furnival, an organisation dedicated to supporting women and families in Burngreave and surrounding areas.

The Furnival creates welcoming, creative ways for people to engage with their local community. Since launching their Creative English programme in 2017, they have worked with over 600 women and children from diverse backgrounds, helping to build confidence in language and improve understanding of everyday life in a new country.

Their work focuses particularly on supporting newly arrived and migrant women — offering a safe, supportive space where they can make connections, grow in confidence, and develop the skills needed to support themselves and their families.

Our donation will help continue this vital work and will go towards providing a crèche for children while women attend English sessions. This removes a key barrier to learning, allowing more women to access support, build independence, and feel part of their community.
