Read Easy Sheffield
2 March 2026
This month, The Sheffield 1000 are proud to donate £1000 to Read Easy Sheffield.
Across England, 2.4 million adults – over 7% of the working-age population – can barely read or cannot read at all. In Sheffield, Read Easy is quietly and compassionately addressing this challenge through its volunteer-led reading coaching programme for adults.
Established in September 2021, Read Easy Sheffield provides free, confidential, one-to-one reading support for adults who want to improve their literacy. Their approach is built around dignity and trust. Coaching takes place in private spaces within public places, ensuring discretion, and each Reader is matched with a dedicated volunteer Coach to build confidence at their own pace.
For many adults, learning to read can be life-changing — opening doors to employment opportunities, independence, improved mental wellbeing, and everyday confidence. By offering patient, personal support, Read Easy helps people move beyond past negative experiences of education and rediscover their potential.
We’re proud to support an organisation that is empowering people in Sheffield with one of the most fundamental life skills. Improving literacy doesn’t just change individual lives — it strengthens families, workplaces, and communities.
Thank you to all our members for making this donation possible — and keep up to date to see where the next £1000 will go.
