b:friend
1 August 2025
At The Sheffield 1000, we’re proud to support grassroots organisations making a real difference in our local communities. That’s why we’re delighted to announce a £1,000 donation to b:friend, a brilliant charity working to tackle social isolation among older people. b:friend brings people together in the simplest but most powerful way — through conversation, companionship, and community. Their network of volunteer befrienders visit older neighbours for a cuppa and a chat, just one hour a week. Whether it’s on the way home from work, after the school run, or squeezed into a busy day, these weekly visits make a huge impact on those who might otherwise go days without speaking to anyone.
But their work doesn’t stop there.
b:friend also hosts a range of social clubs, offering older adults a chance to connect, learn, and stay active. From lively discussions to engaging talks, games, and physically active sessions, these clubs provide a space where everyone is seen, heard, and valued.
We’re thrilled that our £1,000 donation will go towards supporting these social clubs — helping ensure that more older neighbours across South Yorkshire feel connected and cared for.
This is what The Sheffield 1000 is all about: coming together as a community to support the people and projects that make Sheffield a better, kinder place to live.
Thank you to everyone who contributes to The Sheffield 1000. Your donations are helping fund this important work — one hour, one conversation, and one cuppa at a time.
