How Does The Sheffield 1000 Work?
Keep Updated
Keep up to date with what we are doing as charity with emails, blog posts and our social media channels.
Can I Nominate a Charity?
Of course! Once you’re set up as a member you’ll be able to nominate your preferred charity via the members dashboard.
Each week a charity will be picked to receive £1000, so that’s 52 chances per year for you to place your nomination!
There is of course no guarantee that your charity will be chosen. If that was the case we would have to give £1000 to every nominated charity or good cause. We will also routinely ask for new nominations as we continue to grow and gather new members. Keep nominating your chosen charities, as the counter resets and the judging panel will choose from the new set of nominations for the month. So if your charity isn’t selected first time, don’t give up! Also feel free to nominate another charity, or get your friends and family to join and back up your choice with a nomination of their own. Our simple aim to support as many people in Sheffield as we can.
Can Anyone Be a Member?
Yes! This is a charity model that treats everyone equally and gives each person, family or group a real chance to participate and contribute.
The donation is £1 per week so everyone gives exactly the same amount of money – whatever the size of your wallet or purse.
How is the Charity or Organisation Chosen?
Our team will make a shortlist of causes and charities from the applications and a decision will be put forward by our independent judging panel which is made up of those who support voluntary organisations in the city, represent the Race Equality Commission or are local business leaders. They read through the nominations and make their selections based on the information they read and also rely on their years of knowledge and experience.
We understand it might be frustrating if your nominated charity or good cause isn’t chosen but please don’t let that discourage you. Sheffield is a wonderful city with so many worthy causes so keep nominating.
We will send out regular communications to all members to let them know where each week’s donations have gone.
What Happens if £1000 isn’t Raised?
If we didn’t reach the £1000 figure we’d give away whatever we had that week. If we raised over £1000 we would aim to get to £2000 with a view to give away 2 lots of £1000 each week.
Any money raised between £1000 and £2000 would go to our nominated charity of the year.
Does Anyone Make Any Money From This?
Absolutely not. Our plan would be to pay for all the initial costs. Like every charity, we would have to use a small amount of money to cover legal fees but our aim is to be as streamlined as possible.
With a nominated ‘charity of the year’, at the end of each year, all the added gift aid and additional money will be donated directly to the charity.
Make a One-Off Donation!
Whilst our goal is to get 100 people making weekly donations of £1, we would welcome and appreciate any one-off donations made to the charity.
